Dear Friends
I just took action to protect vital human services in Oregon. Please join me by signing the pledge.
Like the rest of the nation, Oregon is facing a severe economic crisis. Our state leaders have taken bold steps to preserve essential human services by passing new laws to increase tax fairness and ensure that corporations and the wealthy are doing their part.
Anti-government activists are already trying to repeal this tax fairness package, which would force nearly $1 billion in cuts to essential services next February. A group of large corporations led by tobacco lobbyist Mark Nelson is preparing to gather signatures in order to force these measures to the ballot. Nelson has hired a signature-gathering firm run by Kevin Mannix to circulate the petitions. They need to gather 55,179 signatures on each measure in order to force an election. If they gather enough valid signatures, the election will be held on January 26, 2010.
We are workers dedicated to providing quality human services and opportunities to live with independence and dignity for the individuals we serve. We are uniting our voices to protect and improve these vital services and hope you will join us. Sign the pledge below!
